Steps to open and re-save a .pptx
- Open the editor at deckcraft.run/editor. The first load downloads the app; later visits open from cache. It starts with a sample deck.
- Open your file. Click the Home icon at the top left of DeckCraft, choose Open… and pick the .pptx. Dragging the file onto the window works too.
- Edit. Click into a text box to type, use the ribbon tabs as you would in PowerPoint, and add notes in the area under the slide. Undo (Ctrl/⌘ Z) steps back through every change.
- Save as PowerPoint. Click the search icon at the top right, type Export and open the Export… dialog. Choose PowerPoint Presentation (.pptx) and click Export. The browser downloads the file under the deck’s title.
If the search lists two Export… entries, choose the one that opens the dialog; the other is a scripting command that expects a file path and only shows an error. The Save icon at the top left saves DeckCraft’s own .deckcraft format instead, which keeps everything DeckCraft can do and opens again here later.

What carries over from PowerPoint?
- Slide masters, layouts and placeholders, themes with their color and font schemes, sections and speaker notes.
- Preset shapes (about 150), custom shapes, groups and connectors; gradient, picture and pattern fills; outlines with dashes and arrowheads; shadows, glow, soft edges and reflections.
- Text with bullets, numbering, levels, autofit, columns, vertical and right-to-left text, fields and hyperlinks.
- Pictures with crop and color changes, tables with their styles, and charts.
- All 48 transition types (Morph and Vortex among them) and animations, including triggers and motion paths.
- Audio and video, which play in the slide show.
What changes or gets lost?
- Some pictures don’t show: EMF and WMF images, common in decks made on Windows, appear blank. For SVG icons, the PNG copy PowerPoint stores alongside is shown instead.
- Some charts and diagrams: the newer chart types (waterfall, funnel, treemap, sunburst, histogram, box and whisker) are not read. SmartArt opens as a group of shapes and is saved that way.
- Equations are not supported yet. 3-D effects and WordArt-style text warps are kept in the file but not drawn.
- Fonts: the browser version carries only a few fonts, and embedded fonts in the file are ignored, so text can reflow slightly.
- On saving to .pptx: replies and resolved status on modern comments are lost, as are media playback options and the rewind setting of animations.
DeckCraft is in alpha and its PowerPoint support has not yet been tested against a large collection of real-world decks. Keep the original file, and open the exported .pptx once to check it before you send it on.
Other ways to export
The Export… dialog also writes a PDF (full-page slides, notes pages, or handouts with 1 to 9 slides per page, with selectable text), a PNG or JPEG of the current slide, and an Outline (.txt) of every slide’s titles and text. In the browser, the “PNG images (all slides)” option currently exports only the selected slide, so export slides one at a time or use the PDF.
Want speaker notes or a summary of the deck you just opened? Export it as .pptx with the AI panel open and ask the AI presentation maker for notes, a review or likely audience questions.
FAQ
Is the PowerPoint file uploaded when I open it here?
No. DeckCraft reads the file in your browser, edits it on your device and saves by downloading a new file. Nothing about the deck reaches deckcraft.run’s servers.
Can I open an old .ppt file?
Not yet. DeckCraft reads the current PowerPoint format (.pptx, plus .potx templates and .ppsx shows). Open a .ppt in any app that can save it as .pptx first.
Why does my text look slightly different?
The browser version carries only a few fonts. Text set in a font it doesn’t have, such as Calibri, is drawn with a substitute, so line breaks can move. The desktop app carries more fonts and also uses the fonts installed on your computer.
Will the file still open in PowerPoint after I edit it here?
That is what Export › PowerPoint Presentation (.pptx) is for, and DeckCraft’s developers report that its files open in PowerPoint without repair. The format support is broad but still in alpha, so keep the original file until you have checked the result.
Can I export the deck as a PDF?
Yes. The same Export… dialog writes a PDF with full-page slides, notes pages or handouts with 1 to 9 slides per page, with selectable text.
